Asking for better QC photos, and exactly what to request

QC photos arrive on the warehouse's terms, not yours. What you can ask for, the message that gets answered, which shots to name, and when the answer will be no.

The photographs in your QC set were not composed for you. Somebody in a warehouse had a trolley of parcels, a table, a phone and a queue, and your jacket got the same four frames as the jacket before it.

So the useful skill is not squinting harder at what you were given. It is asking for the frames nobody took. This page is about the request — wording, timing, limits. Reading the photos is a separate job, and what QC is for sits before both.

Why the default set is thin

A standard shoot is a handful of angles of the outside of a thing. Front, back, a label, maybe a sole. Nobody opened the jacket, laid a tape across it, or put the pair side by side on one surface.

That is throughput rather than neglect: the default is whatever can be done in under a minute per parcel, so anything past it has to be asked for, by you, by name. Coverage is not uniform either — buyers report that whether QC happens at all can depend on which marketplace the item came from.

Ask at purchase, not at QC

The single change that improves the odds most, and buyers pass it around directly:

Looks nice in my eyes but if you want qc for the badge next time ask your agent for pics on the badge when buying maybe they will do it for free now too

A note on the order line travels with the item to the table. A request made after the photos are uploaded means somebody has to find the parcel, unpack it and shoot it again — a costlier operation, and the one most likely to be refused or billed.

So put it in the order remark field when you buy. If there is no such field, send it to support the same day, quoting the order number.

The message that gets answered

Short, numbered, and specific about the object rather than your anxiety. "Please send better photos" is asking a stranger to guess.

  1. Name the order line. Order number and item, because your message is one of hundreds in that inbox today.
  2. List the shots, numbered. Three to five, each a single frame a person can take without interpreting anything.
  3. Say where on the item. "The embroidered logo on the left chest", not "the logo".
  4. Ask for one measurement, and define it. "Flat across the chest, armpit to armpit, tape in frame."
  5. Ask what it costs and how long it adds, and get the answer before you agree.
  6. Say what you will do with it. "If the print is off-centre I will return it" marks this as a decision, not curiosity.

Keep it to one message. A drip of follow-ups over two days is how a request gets deprioritised.

The shots worth naming

Pick from these rather than asking for everything, because a list of twelve reads as a list of none.

The measurement request pays for itself most often, because a number is arguable in a way a vibe is not. One buyer described the case it exists for:

Not great on the T-shirts, quality is standard some were missing care labels, the sizing was awful ordered medium by the size chart, when it got to agent it was 5cm longer I said and rainbow reps said it will be ok.

That thread is linked in full from the Rainbowreps evidence page. Having the number is not the same as winning the argument, but the argument is much shorter with it.

Match the angle to your reference

The most valuable extra frame is usually not a close-up. It is the same angle as the photograph of the retail item you will compare against, because a comparison across two angles is not a comparison. The habit is old here:

If anyone wants to put the whole "his bees are better" thing to the test I have Naisan's Bee Aces, I can take some HD photos to match anyones retail photos if they want.

Find your reference picture first. Then ask for that pose.

What it costs, and when the answer is no

Some agents re-shoot free, some charge per set, some do it for members only, and all of them revise this. Ask rather than assume, and get the answer in the chat. We are not printing anyone's rate here, because we have not measured it.

Expect delay too: a re-shoot is a second trip to the shelf and puts your item back in a queue. One buyer's account of a fast turnaround shows a good case rather than a norm:

HappyWhale is great, I’m currently in the process of getting some items with her from Afen factory (best for Goyard) and the QC pics came within 2 days, she changed an item for me that I wasn’t sold on, and we’re now ready to ship.

That is one order, told by the buyer, and it is not a service level. Whatever your turnaround, it is time added before the parcel exists — which matters if you are counting backwards from a date, as the stage-by-stage timeline sets out.

What more photos still will not settle

Weight, smell, stiffness, how a sole is glued, how a print survives a wash. No number of frames reaches any of that, so a re-shoot buys a better decision rather than a safe one.

A refused request is information too: you now know what this route will do before you build a bigger haul on it. If you are still assembling one, how to buy reps covers the sequence, and the link decoder recovers a product link that no longer opens.
