Open five bag albums in a row and you will notice they were all shot by the same person, even though they were not. Three-quarter angle, front panel to camera, hardware catching the light, bag stuffed with tissue so it stands up. It is a good photograph, and it is a photograph of the one surface of the bag that costs least to get right.
This page is about everything the camera was pointed away from — not because sellers are hiding it, particularly, but because nobody photographs the inside of a bag for the same reason nobody photographs the back of a television.
What actually holds the shape
A bag is a structural object pretending to be a soft one. Whether it stands, slumps, or collapses at the corners after a month has almost nothing to do with the leather you can see and almost everything to do with three things you cannot.
The frame. Structured bags have stiffening — board, resin-coated fabric, a moulded insert — laminated behind the outer panel. It is what makes a shape hold. Its absence is invisible in a photograph of a stuffed bag and obvious the first time you empty one.
The base. Whether there is a separate reinforced base panel, and whether feet are riveted through into something that can hold them. A foot fixed through a single layer of thin leather pulls out. This is the part of a bag that fails first in real use and the part least often photographed.
How the panels are joined. Turned-and-stitched edges, folded and glued edges, and raw edges finished with paint are three construction methods with three lifespans. Judging leather in a QC photo covers what edge finishing looks like done badly, which is the readable half of this.
None of the three is a material question. A bag can be made of decent leather and built like a takeaway box.
The lining is where the money gets saved
If a maker is cutting cost somewhere, the lining is the rational place to do it. It is out of sight, it is a large area, and substituting it changes the unit cost more than almost any other single decision.
What varies: the material, whether the interior is lined at all or is simply the reverse of the outer panel, whether pockets are stitched into the lining or hung off it, and whether the colour and texture match the model being copied. Interior branding — a stamp, a printed label, a woven tab — is a separate component again, and frequently the thing plainly absent.

Two faults, one structural and one a missing interior component, on a small leather good where there is nowhere to hide either. It sits on the seller's page — one comment, from 2021, and the entire record we hold on that store.
Seven frames that are almost never in the album
You will not get these unless you ask, and asking costs nothing. Ask at order time, before the item reaches the warehouse, so the request is waiting rather than chasing.
- The interior, empty, lit. Not the tissue-stuffed version. The whole cavity.
- The base, from underneath, with the feet visible and the bag resting on them.
- The back panel, which on most bags is plainer than the front and therefore skipped.
- The underside of the strap along its full length, where wear starts and where a join is usually hidden.
- Every interior pocket, opened, including the seam where it meets the lining.
- The corners, close, where four layers meet and where a rushed build shows.
- The bag with nothing in it, standing on a table, so you can see whether it stands.
Add a tape measure across the face and the depth while you are asking — that is a sizing problem of its own, and the only measurement that describes the object actually coming to you.
When the bag is not the bag
The failure that costs the most is not a bad seam. It is receiving a different item from the one you agreed to buy, which is a thing our corpus does record:

Read the shape of that. The buyer named a factory, a price and a reference image, then compared what reached the warehouse against the reference — a comparison only possible because they kept the lookbook and the conversation. Do the same: save the images you were sold on, in the message thread, with the price beside them, so that when QC lands you are comparing against a record rather than a memory. That is also what makes a dispute possible at all — how to write an agent dispute is built around evidence you either kept or did not.
Interior stamps, date codes and the line this page stops at
Bags carry interior markings, and a large amount of the discussion around replica bags is about whether those markings are convincing. This site does not go there.
We will tell you to check that an interior stamp exists where the model being copied has one, and that its letterforms are consistent rather than mushy — the same test as any printed or embossed text, covered in logos and fonts. We are not going to tell you what a code should read, how to make one pass anybody's inspection, or how to present a replica as anything other than what it is. Nothing on this page makes a bag authentic, and no photograph, stamp or receipt changes that.
Where a bag is worth the trouble
The category rewards patience more than most, because bags are individually expensive, they are not sized, and a good one is used every day for years. One buyer's account of a long search reads as the sane version of this:

What transfers is the shape of the decision: a year of not buying, then one order. A bag is the item here least suited to impulse and best suited to a list of questions asked before payment.
