There is a specific kind of frustration in a thread where six people say a link works fine and it does not work for you. It feels like the link is fine and you are broken. Usually neither is true: the two of you are not opening the same string, or not opening it in the same place.
This page is about that asymmetry only. If a link is dead for everybody, the recovery guide for dead links is the one you want — it covers shut-down agents, shorteners and delisted products. What follows assumes somebody has the thing loading right now.
Start with the string, because it is usually the string
Links in this hobby travel through automated filters, chat apps and screenshots, and every one of those can alter them. By far the most common cause of a one-person failure is that the text you copied is not the text the poster typed.
Deliberately broken links. Subreddit automoderation strips or removes marketplace links, so people insert spaces to get them past it and expect you to take them back out. That habit is visible all over our corpus, and so is the correction:

Other string-level damage worth checking first:
- A trailing bracket, comma or full stop swept into the URL by your copy.
- Backslashes a comment editor inserted before underscores, which stay in when you paste.
- Curly quotation marks substituted for straight ones by a phone keyboard.
- A link that only existed as pixels in a screenshot, retyped with one wrong digit in a long item id.
The fastest test for all four at once: strip the URL back to the marketplace host and the item id, or paste it into the link decoder, which reads the id out of the shape of the string and rebuilds a clean address.
The app wall
Chinese marketplaces are built app-first, and they are not neutral about how you arrive. A listing that opens instantly for somebody with the Taobao or Weidian app installed can present a desktop browser with a login prompt, a QR code, a redirect loop or a bare error page. Shortener hosts behave the same way — they exist to hand a phone off to an app, and a browser sometimes gets nothing.
So "it works for me" from a person on a Chinese app and "it 404s" from you on a laptop are both accurate reports of different systems. Recover the item id and open the listing through your agent's own search or the canonical marketplace URL instead of fighting the redirect.
Your agent, not the marketplace
This is the one that surprises people, because the link resolves and the failure happens afterwards. Agents apply their own purchasing policies, and those policies differ between agents and change over time. The same item can be orderable through one and refused by another:

That is not a broken link. It is a live listing that one platform declines to buy, and no amount of re-pasting will change it. The mechanism, and why it happens before anything is packed, is covered in customs and duties on a rep parcel. The thread itself sits on the MOOK evidence page.
Less dramatic and just as common: agent link formats change without notice, so a referral-wrapped link built last year may not parse in that agent's current router while the underlying item is untouched.
Gates that apply to you and not to them
- Yupoo albums behind a password. Several sellers gate their albums. The person who says it works has the password from a chat you are not in.
- Accounts and login states. Some listings require a signed-in marketplace account to render at all, and a shop that only sells domestically may not display to a session it reads as foreign.
- Network-level blocks. ISP DNS filtering, a corporate network, an ad-blocker rule that eats marketplace subdomains, or a VPN whose exit address the marketplace does not like. Test in a private window with extensions off before you conclude anything.
Somebody else's link is not your link
If a seller issued a per-buyer link — a normal practice, and one described in the price jump guide — then the URL in the thread was configured for that buyer's order. It may point at a listing that is no longer live, or one the seller keeps hidden from search. Asking the poster for the plain item id, rather than the address bar contents, sidesteps the whole category.
The same applies to affiliate wrapping. A link that carries somebody's referral code is doing two jobs, and only one of them is showing you a product.
The order to work through it
- Open the raw string in a private browser window with extensions disabled.
- Remove spaces, backslashes and trailing punctuation; check the item id digit count.
- Run it through the link decoder and open the rebuilt marketplace URL.
- Search the item id inside your agent's own interface rather than following an external link into it.
- Ask the poster for the seller's name and the item id, not their agent link.
- If your agent refuses to buy it, that is a policy answer, and the next question is a different agent or a different seller.
When it really is gone
At some point the honest conclusion is that the listing was pulled since the last person loaded it, which can happen between two comments in the same thread. Then the seller becomes the problem rather than the link: check what we hold on 124 sellers for a relist or an alternative shop, and read how to buy reps if the agent side is new. A recovered link only means you can pay for the item again — it says nothing about whether the object is any good.
