KakoBuy is a Chinese shopping agent. It does the same job every agent does: it buys an item from Weidian, Taobao or 1688 on your behalf, receives it at a warehouse in China, photographs it so you can look at it before it leaves the country, holds it while you add more things, and then ships the parcel to you.
The disclosure has to come first
This site earns a commission when somebody opens an agent account through one of our links, KakoBuy included. It does not change what you pay. It does make us the wrong people to tell you which agent is best, and this page does not try.
It is worth knowing that KakoBuy's link carries the large majority of the agent clicks this site sends — a figure closer to four in five than to one in eight. That number measures which button our readers press. It does not measure whether the service treats them well, and reading it as a recommendation would be exactly the mistake our ranking method exists to prevent for sellers. The beginner guide says the same thing in fewer words: the agents differ on payment methods, shipping lines and interface, we have not measured them against each other, so we do not rank them.
What you are paying for
An agent bill has four or five parts, and confusing them is where most first orders go wrong.
- The item. What the seller charges, in yuan, paid by the agent on your behalf.
- Domestic shipping in China. Seller to warehouse. Small, and usually invisible until you look at the line items.
- The agent's own service model. Some agents take a percentage of the item, some advertise a free service and make their margin elsewhere, and the model changes when the agent decides it should.
- International shipping. Quoted per parcel by chargeable weight and volume, with a choice of lines — roughly express, standard and economy, in that order of speed and price. This is normally the biggest single number after the goods.
- Optional extras. Extra QC photos, repacking, removing shoe boxes to cut volume, insurance, storage beyond the free period.
We do not publish KakoBuy's percentages, rate cards or line prices on this page. We have not measured them, they are the agent's to change, and a stale number stated confidently is worse than no number. Get the quote the agent gives you for your actual packed parcel and treat that as the price. Import duty on arrival is yours, thresholds differ by country and move — check your own customs authority's current page rather than a rep forum.
What we did measure
Two things, and only two, and both are about links rather than service.
The first is that KakoBuy's buy URL takes an entire encoded source link as a parameter rather than an extracted item id. Practically, that means an odd link shape survives the trip intact. Several other agents want a numeric id plus a platform name, which is why the link decoder pulls the id out of whatever you paste before it rebuilds anything.
The second is uptime, and it produced the most useful false alarm this site has had. A monitoring script checks two URLs per agent — the signup redirect and a real buy link built from a live Weidian item. On one run, kakobuy.com's bare host answered 451, "unavailable for legal reasons", from a European edge, while both URLs the site actually emits returned 200. A checker that pinged homepages would have reported an outage that did not exist. So our classifier splits the answer three ways: alive, dead, and inconclusive, where a 403 or a 451 means the server refused to talk to a robot and says nothing at all about whether a person can buy through it.
What we have not measured
Everything that matters most, which is why this is a description and not a rating.
- Nobody here has bought through KakoBuy, so we hold no first-hand account of an order.
- We have not timed a parcel, on any line, to any country.
- We have not judged QC photo quality, which is the one service difference that would genuinely separate agents.
- We have no record of what happens when it goes wrong: a refund, a lost parcel, a wrong item, a support ticket that went unanswered.
- We have not compared fee totals across agents on the same basket, which is the only comparison that would mean anything.
The Reddit corpus this site is built on is about sellers, not agents. Every quoted comment we hold sits on a seller evidence page and concerns a garment, a batch or a shipment — none of them grade the agent who forwarded it. There is no agent equivalent of that evidence set here, and inventing one out of general impressions would be the thin-content move.
If you do use it
Build a haul rather than shipping one item, because international shipping is priced by weight and volume with a floor. Look properly at the QC photos while the parcel is still in China and still swappable. And keep the original product link — if the agent link you have rots, paste the old one into the decoder and it will rebuild a working buy link for all eight agents from the item id alone.
