Of everything that can go wrong between a Chinese warehouse and your front door, this is the one worth being almost glad about. The item is in China, photographed, not packed, not paid freight on, and not across a border. Nobody has to argue about who damaged what.
What it needs is the right message sent to the right party. Sent the wrong way it becomes three weeks of chat with a seller who has no reason to reply.
The item is not in your possession, and that is the point
Your agent bought it. It is on your agent's shelf. The agent's relationship with the seller is the only route by which anything goes back.
That has a consequence people resist: you do not fix this by messaging the seller. Many of them cannot be reached directly at all, and a buyer who has not paid them has no standing with them. In an August 2025 thread opened by someone whose QC photos showed the right shoe in the wrong colour, a commenter recognised the pair immediately:
Jelly’s work is usually top notch quality I have the pair they sent you to the warehouse but in white instead of black, I would see if the warehouse can return these for you bro and send another pair 🫡

And then set out the sequence, when the buyer said they could not reach the seller:
That’s true as for not being able to contact directly. If I was in your situation, I would just explain to agent that this is not the pair you ordered and to make sure to get you that exact pair (they should contact jelly about this) assuming you have the option to exchange/return.

That thread is on the JELLY evidence page. Two comments, one order, one commenter — not a measurement of how often this seller mis-picks anything, and we are not presenting it as one. It is a clean example of the mechanism.
Wrong item and wrong size are not the same claim
They get filed together and they behave differently.
Wrong item is objective. The listing said black, the photos show white. There is a link, there is a photograph, and the gap between them needs no interpretation. This is the strongest position you will ever be in with an agent's support desk.
Wrong size splits into two cases, and telling them apart decides whether you have a claim at all.
- The label does not match what you ordered. You bought L, the tag says M. Same as a wrong item: objective, photographable, uncontroversial.
- The label matches but the garment does not match the size chart. You bought M, the tag says M, and the measured length is five centimetres off the seller's own published numbers. A real claim, but a claim about measurements, so it lives or dies on a tape measure being in the photo.
The second case is where buyers lose. One described exactly the wrong way it goes:
Not great on the T-shirts, quality is standard some were missing care labels, the sizing was awful ordered medium by the size chart, when it got to agent it was 5cm longer I said and rainbow reps said it will be ok. It arrived and it’s more like XXXL goes to my knees nearly.

The discrepancy was known at the warehouse. It was raised. It was talked away, and then it arrived. That thread sits on the RAINBOW evidence page. The lesson is not about that seller — it is that a measurement disagreeing with the size chart in China will still disagree with it in your hallway, and an assurance is not a remedy. If you did not order against measurements in the first place, reading a Chinese size chart explains what those numbers are.
What to actually send
Write once, to the agent, and make it trivially actionable. Support is working a queue in a second language.
- Order number in the first line. Not in an attachment, not in the third message.
- The listing link and the option you selected, quoted exactly as it appears.
- The QC photo that shows the mismatch. Crop it if you must, but include the full frame too, so the unit is identifiable.
- For a size claim, a photo with a tape measure in it, and the seller's chart figure next to your measured figure.
- State the remedy you want. Return and re-send, exchange, or refund to balance. A message that only describes the problem gets a sympathetic reply and no action.
- One order, one ticket, one channel. Duplicating a warehouse ticket into live chat usually resets your place rather than speeding anything up.
Then wait. The agent has to raise it with the seller, arrange a domestic return, and get a replacement shipped back in — three legs of logistics inside China.
Sellers do accept these
Not always, not measurably, but the record contains it. A 2023 comment about a jersey seller who botched a customisation:
When AAAAJersey messed up the customization I asked for, he happily accepted the exchange without any issues.

One buyer, in one thread — and the same page carries a flatly negative comment from a different buyer two years earlier. We are not averaging them into a score, because two comments do not average into anything.
The three ways this stops being fixable
- You approve the parcel. Once it is packed for international shipping, the seller-side return route is effectively closed and you are left arguing about an object on another continent.
- You wait past the storage window. Free storage is finite and agent-specific. A dispute that outlives it costs you money on every other item in the haul.
- You let the substitution decision drift. If the correct item turns out to be unavailable, you are now in a stockout, and the answer is to take the refund to balance and buy something else rather than hold the parcel open indefinitely.
The fix is real, the window is short, and it closes at the same click that closes every other window. Deciding between accept, replace and refund covers the neighbouring case where the item is right but flawed, and how to buy reps has the sequence this sits inside. If the listing has since stopped opening, the link decoder rebuilds it from the item id.
